Check Out My New Blog
Since my retirement last December, I have been struggling to figure out who I am now that I am no longer a librarian or full-time mom. I am trying to figure out what I should be doing with my time and recently began blogging about my search for the brand new me. You can read about my journey at onceuponatimehappilyeverafter.com. Be sure to leave a comment so I know you stopped by.
Who Am I?
When asked to describe who I am I usual give a long-winded answer like: I am a wife, mother, grandmother, step-mother, librarian and responsible pet owner. I am also a daughter, sister, aunt, sister-in-law and daughter-in-law. That pretty well describes who I am as far as the relationships in my life. But doesn't tell much more.
I was born in Buffalo, New York then moved to Boston, Massachusetts when I was four. In the summer between fifth and sixth grades, my family and I moved to Bartlett, Tennessee and I lived there with my parents, younger sister and brother until I went to college.
When I graduated in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science in Art Education and a minor in Library Science from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, I thought I would marry a rich doctor and write and illustrate children's books. Didn't happen. Instead, I have been a librarian with EPISD for 24 years. I have worked at Jefferson High School, Schuster Elementary, School-Age-Parent Center/CCTE High Schools and now Wainwright/Moye Elementary. I was the only librarian ever selected as Elementary Teacher of the Year for the El Paso ISD and yet I never planned to be a teacher or librarian!
Almost thirty years later (YIKES!), in 2008, I graduated from the University of North Texas, Denton, with a Master's in Library and Information Science. I keep thinking that someday I would like to finish at least one of the children's books I have floating around part in my head and part on paper. Someday. In the meantime, I like to read (DUH!), write, scrapbook, and Pinterest in my spare time. I also enjoy swimming, riding my bike, walking and hiking with my husband and visiting my daughters whenever I can.
